CCKA Sea Paddle to Scotland
Four members of CCKA paddle from Ballintoy on the North Coast to Port Ellen on the Island of Islay, Scotland.
John Vance, Martin McClenahan, Francie and Steve Smith made the crossing on 27th September. The plans where finalised under the cover of darkness in Robbin boat house, Ballintoy harbour. They embarked on their epic journey at 0400hrs with only a few hours sleep, packed the boats, had a huge breakfast and set off at 0550hrs under the cover of darkness and paddled towards Rathlin Island John Vance commented “It was a lovely paddle with calm waters, bright stars overhead and a half moon was glowing brightly with a halo around it.” Weather tides and conditions made for a relatively straight forward crossing. After a well deserved night with a few beers and a comfortable bed in the local B&B they hitched a lift back to Ballintoy by Rib the next morning. Well done to our intrepid foursome. Plans are being hatched for a another trip in the near future.
